the newest dram-pop excursion :
HERE COMES THE FLOOD
(our rendering of the Peter Gabriel’s song)
Every one of Peter Gabriel’s recordings of Here Comes the Flood, packs an emotional punch. It’s hard to put a finger on the exact “mechanics” that consistently deliver that magical crushing blow. The evocative disjointed images, the moods of helplessness and hope that shift with the chordal modulations, and, of course, that voice—it’s a wonder.
As part of the experiment that is our CRISPRINGS project, we’ve taken a different direction, casting it as a “survivors” duet, with a dash of disco from the song’s birth year, 1977, and a hint of apocalypse that the original never overplays.
For the video, I’ve set it to scenes from one of my favorite movies, Tarkovsky’s The Sacrifice. This film presents a small group of people coming to terms with the arrival of nuclear war, and the sacrifice one makes to literally restore the world.
For me, many of the themes of the song and the film seem to resonate with each other.
This precious world needs our attention.
Recorded and mixed at Brick Hill Studio in Orleans, Massachusetts. Siobhan Magnus : vocals | Humberto Cordero : vocals, piano, radio etc. | Jon Evans : bass and guitars | Matthias Bossi : drums
